Apparently, it's possible to use a smartphone as a low powered microscope:
The biology professor whose blog I found this on mentioned a class where he asked the students to draw pictures of the cells they were seeing in the standard classroom microscope and they whipped out their phones and aimed the cameras down the eyepieces.
I think I may want to build one of these rigs and play with it.
